This is a single-celled green alga, that lives in bogs and fens. Aside from the symmetry of the cell, its presence can tell us that an ecosystem is relatively clean–free of pollutants.

 

If this was macroscopic, people would be growing them in little bowls of water, instead of snake plants, Ficus or African violets!
